4 Tips from a Smart Shopper

4 Tips from a Smart Shopper
Hello Loves!

I will admit, I’m a shopaholic. I love to buy whatever is in my lane, especially if it’s pink, vintage, and glam. However, these past few years, I have developed a few tips and tricks on how to look fabulous without breaking the bank.

Thrift Stores – The good ol’ hand me down playground that is filled with lots and lots of hidden gems. I will admit that thrifting does take a good chunk of your time, so prepare to be very patient. 90% of the time you will end up with nothing. However, when you find that hidden gem, it’s all worth it, especially when its in great condition for less than $10! I have found some of my best fashion statement pieces at a thrift shop. My go to online thrift shop is thredUP and my go to in-store thrift shop is Goodwill.

Department Stores – The best place to buy brand name clothing and accessories for a discounted price. Gordmans, TJ Maxx, and Nordstorm Rack are my favorite shops to buy Nike and Fila comfy clothes as well as Nine West shoes. Their discounted prices are unbeatable! If you are all about the brand names, these department stores are for you!

Ebates – If you love to online shop religiously, definitely sign up for Ebates. This is the place to receive cash back for simply shopping for what you need and want. Disclaimer: not all online stores are on Ebates, but a good chunk are. I probably online shop 3-4 times every year and my Ebates checks end up being between $5 – $15, which has helped pay a few bills here and there.

Holiday Sales are the best sales! – If you are dying to buy something and a holiday sale is coming up, I say wait for that Holiday Sale discount. I have saved so much by just waiting a day or two. Usually these sales will be 20% – 50% an entire purchases or buy one and get one free.

The Waiting Game – I have played this game so many times and it has paid off in the end. For example, Storets has this gorgeous blouse that I’ve been wanting for weeks, however, I convinced myself that it wasn’t in my budget to buy it full price. So, your girl waited and I finally snatched it a few days ago for half price. Best shopping score ever! Trust me, sometimes waiting for the price to drop can really pay off.

Fashion Movies/TV Shows for Inspiration!

Fashion Movies/TV Shows for Inspiration!
Hello Loves!

I’m a sucker for good ol’ fashion-themed movies and tv shows! Lately I have been binge watching The Carrie Diaries since I’ve been obsessed with the 90s/vintage style. I love the motivation and inspiration I get from each of the strong-female leads who find a way to be their authentic self while always looking fabulous. When I feel uninspired or lost in what I’m creating, I plop on my bed and watch one of these iconic movies/tv shows to help spruce up creative ideas and remind myself that a career in the fashion industry is possible.

My ‘Post Grad’ Advice From Me to You

My ‘Post Grad’ Advice From Me to You
Hello Loves!

One of my subscribers asked for a post-grad advice video, but I thought I write it out first. It’s been 2 years since I’ve graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Communication Media Studies. It still feels unreal that these past 2 years flew by. I learned so much about myself and my true passions. Post-grad life wasn’t all peaches and cream. I dealt with everything from family drama to doubting my skills and knowledge as a content creator.

These past 2 years have been the most I’ve seen myself grow not only mentally/emotionally, but also professionally. I have taken my passion for content creation to a whole new level by putting more effort and time into my blog as well as continuing my education by pursuing a masters degree in Strategic Marketing. Today I am sharing a few post-grad advice that I feel will help give insights on what worked for me and it might work for you as well.

Travel Travel Travel! The honest truth is that you will be working for the rest of your life, so take the time you have between graduation and scoring your first adult job by exploring new places. Trust me, traveling really helped spark my content creating passion, which has lead me to who I am today.

Be prepare to fail over and over again. Very few graduates land their dream job or any professional job right away. It really takes 1) preparation and 2) luck to make it all work out. If you fail, learn from your failure and try try try again.

This is the time to be open-minded. Yes you want that dream job, but there is a chance you won’t get it. Due to this, you will need to prepare yourself to grasp onto any opportunity that comes your way to really get the ball rolling. You never know, that one job that you didn’t completely love might lead to an amazing opportunity.

Move out of town. One of the best decisions I have made till this day. I took it upon myself to venture out and move 2.5 hours away from home. Of course, it’s best to find a job and apartment first, which I was able to tackle down within a month. Moving to a different city helped me become more independent, patient, grow as a professional, and find my true passions. Something about being on your own really opens this whole new world that you never knew existed.

Continue to surround yourself with a support system. Keep in touch with the people who matter and find the time to connect with them. When you move to a city where you don’t know many people, sometimes it gets lonely and that one phone call with a family member or friend can really help push away loneliness and help you focus on what you want to do.

It truly doesn’t matter where you went to school. As long as you know how to apply your knowledge and skills, you are just as capable as anyone who has attended Harvard or Yale. Marketing your skills and knowledge the right way, makes you an attractive person to hire.

Utilize the alumni network with your university or college to find a job. Sometimes graduates aren’t aware of the perks they have as an alumni. I recommend contacting the alumni office at your university to find out what resources and services they have to help you in your desired career field.

Lastly, be honest with yourself. Be honest with who you are and what you want out of life. The more you are aware of your true passions, the easier it is to find true happiness. I have always been a daddy’s girl where I lived my life for my family. I wasn’t 100% honest with who I was, which ate me alive last year, to the point I had a melt down. The more I became honest with my own feelings and passions, I became a better person not just for myself, but also for the people I love most.

Twirling in Pearls

Twirling in Pearls
Hello Loves!

The two style trends I am currently obsessed with are: statement socks and pearls! My obsession have skyrocketed the past few weeks and in a way have given me so much more confidence on my personal style. I love the modern street-style take on vintage pearls and statement socks. These two iconic details are what we all need to feel like the “IT” gal walking downtown.

What I love about pearls is their ability to attract the light and provide a luminous accent. They have been everywhere from vintage denim to headbands. It’s the year of the pearl and I love it!

I wanted to style a pearl on pearl look without being too overwhelming in details. I love the simple pearl details on the sweater and socks. When I found these statement socks that fulfilled my pearl obsession, I was super happy! A tulle skirt styled with pearl accents is always a whimsical duo. The two pieces compliment the overall look very well and stay very true to the feminine feel.

Now let’s talk about statement socks for a hot minute! Can you tell that I’m 100% obsessed with them?! I find them as the perfect shoe accessory AND not only do they add an extra touch to your heels, but they also provide a comfort barrier between your skin and shoes. To me that is a win-win situation!

2019 New Year Resolutions

2019 New Year Resolutions
Hello Loves!

Today is the day, I go full on motivation mode with my 2019 New Year Resolutions. I will be honest that I have been slacking this week due to inner anxiety and self-doubt about myself as a content creator. I am starting off 2019 by not being too hard on myself and continue to create content that I am proud of. Since I tend to get very overwhelm with a long list of resolutions, which is why I have limited myself to 3 main goals that I know will be achievable and beneficial to my personal and professional growth.

Resolution #1: Reach 10K on Instagram

I know that I shouldn’t be focused on the numbers when growing on Instagram, but how I see it is that there are a few perks that come with a 10K following: 1) the swipe up feature for Insta-story, 2) meeting certain brand requirements where I’m not missing out on brand opportunities due to a low following, and 3) it’s a milestone I have always wanted to achieve so why not let 2019 be that year? I will say this, I’m not letting the numbers discourage me from creating content because I will always find joy in what I do. I plan to work 10x as hard this year to one day do this full-time. How I see it is that reaching the 10K mark would be like a graduation ceremony indicating that I in a way “made it”.

Resolution #2: Continue My Annual “Out of State Trip” Tradition

I’m an avid traveler! I love exploring new and old places especially if it feeds into my content creation. There is something magical about traveling that really helps me learn more about myself. Whether that is inspiring my fashion looks or sharing a travel guide with my community of #fabulousbabes! I am forever grateful for my previous travel trips because they have all played a huge role on helping me find my true passions in life.

Resolution #3: Publish 1 Youtube Video a Week

Last year was all fun and games, but I’m ready to take on my Youtube channel head on. I want to grow my channel. I know that creative content and consistency is key, SO I’m challenging myself to publish at least 1 video a week to keep my audience inspired and/or entertained.

Thank you so much for reading, it truly means the world to me!
